The Women's Haggadah: A Legend of Miriam
"And, among the many legends dealing with Miriam, in contrast to the narrow space she occupies in early Scripture, is the one of Miriam and the well. In Miriam's honor, a well of clear, cool water followed the children of Israel through the desert. When Miriam died, the well dried up and disappeared.
We were that well of longing for our history, a well of words pouring forth."
